The latest Legalsense update starts of the year with enhancements designed to improve integration capabilities, user access management, and overall performance. Key highlights of this release include workspace access management for NetDocuments and updates to API endpoints.
Workspace access management within the NetDocuments integration
In Legalsense, managing access to a Matter is possible by selecting which users can access it. If this feature is enabled, you will be able to define “access kind” on a Matter, choosing between (1) giving access to everyone or (2) setting so that only explicitly chosen users can access the Matter.
This per-user access can also be mirrored into your NetDocuments environment.
To ensure this functionality works correctly, it is essential that users in Legalsense also exist in NetDocuments. We ensure that the correct user can access the correct Matter by matching the email addresses. Therefore, these email addresses must be identical in both systems to ensure that the user in Legalsense is linked to the correct user in NetDocuments.
When Matters are synced, it is checked whether the users that exist in Legalsense also exist in NetDocuments. If a user is missing, we will notify the contact email address set in the configuration.
In NetDocuments, access to a workspace and its folders and documents is managed based on an 'Access Control List' (ACL). To enforce the ACL, user groups are created in NetDocuments that define what users can access, what information they can access, and on what level.

Other
- The 'Creditors' page, available via the 'Disbursements' tab, is updated to the modern styling of Legalsense, similar to the 'Users' tab.
- When your Legalsense environment is integrated with ContactManager, a contact's editable fields are limited to those for financial information. The field 'Collections management' has now been added to the list of editable fields. With this field, you can determine whether to include or exclude the debtor when creating reminder letters in Legalsense.
APIv3
- Extra fields for list endpoints can be selected in the Swagger UI. For those endpoints where extra fields are supported, the extra fields parameter will show you the valid values and allow you to select them directly within the Swagger UI.
- Almost all fields from the contact, matter, and client endpoints are now accessible via the extra_fields parameter. This allows you to avoid retrieving this information through the detail list, reducing query complexity and improving performance.
