Legalsense can connect to external company information providers Company.info and Dun & Bradstreet (D&B). This integration allows you to search for company information directly from Legalsense and automatically pre-fill a new contact with data returned by the selected provider.
Company.info is typically used for organizations registered in the Netherlands, while Dun & Bradstreet offers broader international coverage. Only one provider can be active at a time: either Company.info or Dun & Bradstreet.
With the integration enabled, you can look up company information during the creation of a new contact in Legalsense. After you select a result from the provider's search list, Legalsense fills the contact form with the returned data. This reduces manual data entry, helps prevent errors, and improves the accuracy and consistency of your contact records.
The information retrieved depends on the provider, your subscription with that provider, and the availability of data for the selected company. In general, the integration can supply details such as the company's name (statutory or trade, depending on your configuration), registration number (for example a Chamber of Commerce number or D-U-N-S number), address information, postal code, city, and country. Once the fields are filled, you can review and adjust the information before saving the contact.
How do I enable the integration?
To enable the integration, you need an active account with either Company.info or Dun & Bradstreet, including the necessary API credentials. These credentials are provided by the chosen provider or by Legalsense (depending on your contract). You also need access to the Settings menu in Legalsense, which is typically limited to administrator users.
In Legalsense, open the Settings menu and go to Integrations. On the integration configuration page for company information, select the provider that you want to use. You can choose either Company.info or Dun & Bradstreet. Enter the account details or credentials for the selected provider in the fields shown on this page and then click Save. If the configuration is saved successfully, Legalsense confirms this with a message and the integration is ready for use. If a warning or error message appears instead, you should check that the credentials are correct and, if necessary, contact Legalsense Support for assistance.
By default, Legalsense uses the trade name to fill the contact name field. If you prefer to use the statutory name instead, enable the Use legal name option on the configuration page. The statutory name is the name under which the organization is officially registered with a local or national registry.
Looking up company information when creating a new contact
Once the integration has been configured, you can use it when creating a new Contact that is an organization. This process works as follows and is illustrated in the screenshots below:
In the main menu, go to Matter → Contacts.
Click the New contact button and choose Organization as the contact type.
In the new contact form, click the Search button next to the company search field.
In the pop-up window that appears, enter either (part of) the company name or an organization number.
Click Search in the pop-up to send the query to the provider.
After the search has completed, a list of matching results appears. The list typically shows the company's trade name and its organization number.
Click the company that you want to use. Legalsense automatically fills the new contact form with the data retrieved from the provider.
Review the data in the contact form, make any necessary changes, and then click Save to create the new contact.
If you encounter an error message during the search—for example if the provider cannot be reached within the configured time or if your credentials are no longer valid—you can try the search again. If the error continues to appear, you should inform your administrator or contact Legalsense Support and provide the error message and the approximate time when it occurred.
Organization number
An "organization number" may refer to different types of numbers depending on your provider and the organization's country. When using Dun & Bradstreet, it is typically a D-U-N-S number, which is their own global identifier for organizations. When using Company.info, it is typically a chamber of commerce number or other official registration number, depending on the country. In either case, an official registration number is returned and filled-in, if available.
