Unprocessed remainder on a disbursement
In the disbursement search results, you may see the text Unprocessed remainder below the Matter column. This article explains what this means.
Disbursement search results, showing Unprocessed remainder below the Matter column.
Why this appears
Legalsense shows Unprocessed remainder when someone has entered a purchase invoice for a disbursement, either manually or through an accounting sync, and the invoice amount hasn't been fully distributed across one or more disbursements.
When you open the disbursement, the disbursement overview page opens. This page describes:
- the disbursement number Legalsense assigned;
- the amount of the purchase invoice;
- the number from the external accounting application, if an integrated accounting application such as Twinfield, Exact Online, or Fortnox imported the disbursement;
- the user who imported or created the disbursement;
- the date of the invoice;
- the tax rate;
- the creditor;
- the invoice number;
- the description.
Disbursement detail page, showing the booking lines of the purchase invoice on the left and the purchase invoice details on the right.
Note: If someone created the disbursement manually instead of importing it from a synced accounting application, some of this information isn't available.
The left side of the screen, under Bill to matters, shows the booking lines of the purchase invoice: the part of the total amount (excluding VAT) that's assigned to a matter as a disbursement. For example, €1,000 excluding VAT assigned to the matter Aalberts Industries / Test new invoice 20200042.
Any part of the purchase invoice that hasn't been assigned to a matter as a disbursement shows as the unprocessed remainder, so the total still reconciles with the full purchase invoice amount.
This applies both to disbursements added manually and to disbursements synced from an integrated accounting application. The unprocessed remainder always represents purchase invoice items that haven't been linked to a matter as a disbursement, even though they're included in the invoice amount.
