Release 26.10 adds partial updates (PATCH) on users, which makes onboarding and offboarding users from an identity management system straightforward. It also brings time entry write-off and matter Chinese walls in line with the web interface. Review the changes below to assess the impact on your integration.
New endpoints
Partial updates on users
PATCH /api/v3/users/{id}/ updates only the fields present in the request body; omitted fields keep their stored value. PUT is unchanged and still requires the full payload. Matters and users are the resources that accept PATCH.
List fields such as functions, groups and rates are replaced wholesale when included, so send the complete list rather than a difference; lists you omit are left untouched. custom_fields merges by identifier, as on matters.
Unknown fields and read-only fields return HTTP 400. Fields that are unavailable because of a disabled feature or the firm's user form configuration return HTTP 403. Coupled fields, such as begin_date and end_date, are validated against the merged result. See the documentation on the endpoint in Swagger for the full list per field.
is_active is derived and read-only. To offboard a user, set end_date to their last working day; login and API access end the day after. To end access immediately, use POST /api/v3/users/{id}/archive/. To bring a user back, send PATCH with end_date set to null or a later date, and call POST /api/v3/users/{id}/unarchive/ if the user was archived.
Modified endpoints
/api/v3/loglines/ requires both write-off permissions for partial write-off: a billable_minutes value that differs from minutes requires both can_write_off_on_timeentry_with_billable_minutes and can_write_off_with_billable_minutes, matching the web time entry form. app_features.partial_writeoff on GET /api/v3/me/ reflects the same check. Already backported to release 26.09; customers on the latest patch have the fix.
