Writing and managing time is one of the main functions of Legalsense. This introductory article provides an overview of the various options of this component which are described in separate articles.
Writing and editing Time
Legalsense offers four regular ways to write time:
- Manual input on the homepage (Recent Time Entries)
- Per day
- Timers
- Mobile app (iPhone or Android)
The article Writing and editing Time describes how to write, change or delete time entries, provided you have the appropriate permits to do so.
Time search
There are various ways to search for time entries in Legalsense, for example by using the option 'Timesheet' - 'Search' or 'Timesheet' - 'Calendar'. More information about searching time entries can be found in the article Time Search.
Calendar
The calendar overview shows the written hours per day in a month or week. More information can be found in the article Calendar.
Mobile App (iPhone of Android)
You can also write time using the Legalsense Mobile App (iPhone or Android). These can be downloaded from the Apple App Store (iPhone) or the Google Play Store (Android). The steps needed for the activation of the app and the instructions for use can be found in the articles Mobile App (iPhone) and Mobile App (Android).
Hours report
The 'Timesheet - Hours report' shows an overview of written hours per day for yourself or for multiple users in a week or month with - if these are set - the expected hours. More information about this option you will find in the article Hours support.
Finalized periods
You can close periods in Legalsense. This means that after closing, no more hours can be written in those periods. More information about this option can be found in the article Period closure.
QRG (Quick Reference Guide)
A Quick Reference Guide is available for new users who want to 'write time' in Legalsense: QRG Time Writing in Legalsense.
Timesheet settings
Before you start writing time there are some settings that need to be determined by you(r organisation). These settings can be changed in the 'Settings' - 'General' - 'System settings' under section 'Timesheet', provided you have enough access rights.
Default rounding unit time entries
The rounding unit of minutes to be invoiced is set to 6 minutes by default, but this rounding unit can be adjusted. Use 0 minutes if you don't want to round time entries. More information can be found in the article Change time format.
Warn when writing time on matter without engagement letter
If this option is selected, a warning will be shown when time is written on a matter that doesn't have a signed engagement letter.
Activities/Activity groups
In Legalsense, a time entry must always be linked to an activity. The list of activities to choose from when writing time can be adjusted by your organization (see the article Activities) and, if desired, divided into groups (see the article Activity groups). When a matter in another language is selected, the activity will be displayed in that specific language. If you wish to handle activities in languages other than Dutch and English, these languages must be activated in your Legalsense environment.
